The Passing of Nancy A. Jones
April 29, 2025During the 108th National Convention, the Fraternity held the National Award Ceremony to recognize the accomplishments of individuals and Chapters. This past academic year, Alpha Chi Rho resident members have boasted a cumulative GPA over a 3.0, conducted over 1,800 community service hours, raised over $54,000 through philanthropy events for organizations such as the American Cancer Society, Habitat for Humanity, Gift of Life, and the JED Foundation. They worked hard to continue our mission to improve ourselves, our Fraternity, and society.
Community Service Award – Given in recognition of the Chapter demonstrating outstanding service to the community
The winner of the 2025 Community Service Award is the Alpha Phi Zeta Chapter located at Seton Hall University. The Chapter showcased an exceptional commitment to community service and philanthropy throughout the year. From donating children’s books to a Harlem elementary school, raising funds for a hospitalized Brother, and participating in events like Rise Against Hunger—where they helped pack over 10,000 meals—they’ve demonstrated compassion and initiative. They organized and executed multiple philanthropic events, including a hot chocolate fundraiser benefiting a local hospital, weekly tabling for causes, and their annual “Gala” and “AXP Factor” talent show, both of which raised thousands of dollars for charity. Their involvement in campus-wide initiatives like Greek Week and Zeta’s Big Man on Campus further highlights their dedication to service. This Chapter has gone above and beyond to embody the values of leadership, empathy, and community support.
Weston L. Dangler Award – Given in recognition of the Chapter with the best communication with the National Office
The Phi Nu Chi Chapter at West Chester University received this year’s award. Throughout the academic year, the Chapter demonstrated consistent, proactive, and transparent communication with the National Office. They provided regular updates on recruitment numbers, philanthropy planning and finances, while frequently asking thoughtful questions and seeking guidance to stay aligned with National expectations. Even during officer transitions, they kept the National Office informed of timelines and next steps. Their communication reflects a clear commitment to collaboration, responsiveness, and excellence in Chapter operations.
Thomas F. Flanagan Memorial Award – Given in recognition of the Chapter demonstrating the true image of the Fraternity
This year’s recipient is the Alpha Phi Chapter at Purdue University. After a strong start to the semester, an unexpected tragedy occurred. Throughout the rest of the year, the Brothers banded together, were there for each other, and were true Brothers of Alpha Chi Rho. Everyone focused on ensuring that every Brother was doing well and that the Chapter was able to reflect and move on from the tragedy. During these difficult times, the general membership showed their true character and the true image of Alpha Chi Rho. A Brother of Alpha Chi Rho is one who is there for each Brother through every peril, one who relieves another Brother in need, and who shows mutual respect and love for one another.
Stanley G. Bedford Award – Given in recognition of the Chapter with the most effective executive leadership
The 2025 winner of the Stanley G. Bedford award is the Phi Lambda Chapter at Penn State University. When it comes to effective leadership, the Phi Lambda Chapter has continued to improve its infrastructure. This Chapter communicates often with the National Staff, their advisors, and University staff, which allows them to have very efficient and effective programming. The Executive leadership operates as a cohesive team, and the Chapter collectively works together towards their common goals. These men are natural leaders, close-knit, and truly embody our Fraternity’s mission. Despite the challenges and obstacles the Chapter faced in the past year, they always adapted and grew from the situations.
Dennis Grim Award – Given in recognition of the Chapter with genuine commitment and excellence in performance of the Ritual
The winner of the 2025 Dennis Grim award is the Eta Phi Chapter at Gettysburg College. Eta Phi’s membership is knowledgeable of the Ritual from their frequently held Chapter meetings under Ritual. After their new members are Initiated, they take the time to teach those new members the correct process of holding a meeting under Ritual and learning more about the esoteric aspects of our Order. Finally, many Brothers are always interested in improving their practices and understanding of the Ritual.
Wilbur M. “Curly” Walden Cup – Given in recognition of the hard work required to become the best all-around Chapter in the Fraternity
Congratulations to the Theta Chi Phi Chapter at Montclair State University for receiving this year’s Curly Cup! This Chapter has gone above and beyond the average call for men of word and deed. The Chapter has always sought to improve itself and not rest on its laurels. The Brothers do this by increasing their usual efforts of supporting several charitable organizations, practicing and teaching the Ritual, gaining and retaining many high-quality men through recruitment, instilling a strong ownership of their facility, teaching members the value of financial management, and having a high functioning and efficient operational structure. The Chapter has always been exemplary, and we look forward to their continued success.
