Graduate and Undergraduate Brothers at the Winter Conclave

February 6, 2018

Philadelphia, PA

On January 27, 2018, over 90 undergraduate delegates and 25 graduate Brothers descended upon the University of Pennsylvania campus for the Winter Conclave to raise the standards of Brotherhood, Accountability, and Responsibility (B. A. R.) of the Fraternity.

The Conclave featured discussions on Alpha Chi Rho’s Relevance and Values with Brother Jim Rappaport (Phi Phi, ’77), Motivating the Middle with T.J. Sullivan, and a moving conversation about Greek Life’s Relevance and Hazing with Mindy Sopher. National Treasurer Joshua Brodsky (Mu Chi Phi, ‘93) and Crow Coaches Robert Foose (Tau Chi Phi, ‘06) and Frank Ulrich (Phi Omicron Chi, ‘88) also led a Treasurer’s Workshop to help treasurers with their day-to-day operations and their long term goals.

One attendee said in regards to Mindy’s discussion on Hazing in the Greek community, “She was a fantastic speaker. Her stories and memories at times tore into my heart. She talked very raw about hazing- and rightfully so. … In my opinion, you can have two attitudes with Greek Life: you can bash it and stay away, or you can join it to reform it. I am in AXP to improve the attitude of Greek life on my campus and in the world. And I feel like Mindy held the same values as myself.”

Overall there has been a positive reception to the Conclave. Many of our attendees enjoyed meeting Brothers from different Chapters to learn how they operate, meeting Graduate Brothers to network and, “hear their great stories of their experiences in Alpha Chi Rho”, and feeling welcomed by the host Chapters at University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University. With the great attendance we had of over 115 Brothers, the Fraternity and Foundation are looking forward to a great InDeed Institute (LSI) this summer!
