SUMMARY:InDeed Institute
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the InDeed Institute is to educate rising leaders in the Fraternity on how the Landmarks and principles of Character\, Honor\, and Integrity affect their Chapters and daily lives. \n  \nThis year\, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused the physical InDeed Institute to be cancelled. There is no way that the normal curriculum of InDeed can be taught virtually\, so the Fraternity will hold virtual sessions throughout the summer on topics that are still beneficial to these rising leaders. This year’s InDeed will be open to not only two or three members per Chapter / Colony but the entire undergraduate population. There are limited seats for Graduate Brothers to attend Sessions 1 and 2. \nRegistration closed on June 22\, 2020. \nEach CHAPTER is required to have two (2) rising leaders attend each session of the the Institute (i.e. New Members from 2018 or rising sophomores/juniors). Each COLONY is required to have three (3) rising leaders attend the sessions. Attendance is open to all resident members and is highly encouraged. \nFailure to attend the Institute sessions will cause the Chapter’s good standing with the National Fraternity to be jeopardized. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact the National Office at hq@alphachirho.org or by calling 732-869-1895. \nThe schedule is: \nSession 1: July 6\, 2020 at 7:30 PM EST \nSurviving and Thriving in Uncertain Times by Karen Litzinger \nDescription: With so much upheaval and stress during pandemic times\, this program will give resources for coping to help stay emotionally healthy and productive at work and at home. Topics include strategies for wellness\, perspective\, anxiety\, resiliency\, negative thoughts\, professional development and career planning. Remote workshop via Zoom with hands-on exercises\, polls\, break-out rooms\, and time for interaction and questions via chat room or direct video. \nSession 2: July 13\, 2020 at 7:30 PM EST \nTrauma and COVID-19: Their Impact on College Students by Brother Alex Alperin (Beta Phi\, ’09) \nDescription: As many as 68% of adults have experienced some form of trauma at least once in their lives (Pappano\, 2014; The National Council\, 2013). Throughout the life span\, trauma can manifest itself in substance abuse\, depression\, anxiety\, learning difficulties\, and other mental health disorders. This is especially relevant to college students as research indicates that 12-50% of them meet the criteria for one or more of the common mental disorders (Bruffaerts et al.\, 2018). With the COVID-19 pandemic this statistic is probably higher. As fraternities offer an environment of communal support\, it is important for them to be trauma informed since a fraternal brotherhood can potentially diminish the impact that psychological trauma has had or can have on one of its members. \nThe goal of this workshop\, designed for Alpha Chi Rho members\, is to help its participants understand how to incorporate trauma informed approaches in their chapters. In this workshop\, trauma will be defined\, and its effect will be summarized. Discussion will then focus on its neurobiological impact and the principles of trauma informed organizations\, as well as compassion fatigue among its members. Finally\, COVID-19 will be discussed in regard to fears and the impact it might have on members. This workshop will be research based\, interactive\, illustrative\, and practical. \nSession 3: Beginning July 6\, 2020\, must be completed by July 30\, 2020* \nInterfraternity Council Recruitment Digital Classroom \nDescription: Phired Up Productions has developed two online courses that discuss how the recruitment game has changed\, but the way that we make meaningful connections and relations has not. This classroom is for IFC fraternity members. It’s packed full of videos\, lessons\, and resources to help you learn the Fundamentals of recruitment\, how to maximize your recruitment efforts with technology\, how to market your Chapter\, the art of Social Excellence™ and how to make authentic connections with PNMs\, how to use values-based selection to find the right members\, how to create a recruitment system for the future (including an example of a successful recruitment plan!)\, how to Recruit Digitally\, and more! \n*Note that all Recruitment Chair(s)\, Recruitment Committee members\, and members that joined in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 are required to complete this course.
