2017 Graduate and Undergraduate AXPEF Scholarship Winners

Brian Mazurowski (ΟΦ) – DONALD F. JONES GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Brian is a rising third-year law student at the University at Buffalo School of Law and joined Alpha Chi Rho in 2013 at Utica College. He has secured a summer clerkship with the prestigious Buffalo firm Kenney, Shelton, Liptak, Nowak. He says, “I am so thankful to be a part of this Brotherhood. AXPEF is so supportive and I cannot thank them enough. They have always helped me in a time of need. This money will help pay for books and school expenses.”

Chris Warren (ΞΧΦ) – WILBUR M. “CURLY” WALDEN GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Chris joined Alpha Chi Rho in 2013 and gradauted in 2014 from
Ramapo College of New Jersey. Chris graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society. He has been admitted to the Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School in pursuit of Emergency Medicine. His strong recommendations came from EIGHT of the faculty at Ramapo for his entrance into Medical School and for this scholarship. Chris writes, “I am honored to be chosen to receive this scholarship among the highly competitive applicant pool. I am proud to be a member in a Fraternity that values continued education and bolsters its members’ ambitions through philanthropic alumni involvement. This award is going directly to my tuition bill which will alleviate some of my debt and allow me to concen- trate on becoming the best physician I can be.”

Kyle Kuebler (ΖΦ) – STANLEY G. BEDFORD GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Kyle joined Alpha Chi Rho in 2013 and recently graduated this past May from Clarkson University. Kyle just graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and boasts a 3.64 GPA. He served his Chapter as Recruitment Chair and President, and was the co-founder of Clarkson’s Club Ice Hockey and Golf. Kyle states, “Alpha Chi Rho has been one of the most instrumental [pieces] of my undergraduate career where I have had endless leadership, community service, and development opportunities all stemming from this Brotherhood, for which I am incredibly thankful. This scholarship will help me in my pursuit of a Masters in Business Administration at Clarkson University next fall.”

Jesse Wolfe (ΦΛ) – F. PRESCOTT HAMMOND GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Jesse joined Alpha Chi Rho in 2011 and graduated in 2014 from Pennsylvania State University. Jesse is a previous recipient of two undergraduate scholarships while at Penn State. He was an avid volunteer in college, working with Penn State’s THON and a local dog shelter. He has recently been working full-time as a Psychiatric Rehabilitation assistant with the Penn Foundation and was accepted into the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine for the Fall semester. In Jesse’s own words, he says, “I am very grateful to have received this scholarship and very grateful to have the support of my Brothers and my Fraternity as I pursue a career in medicine. This scholarship will help me pay for many school supplies, including books, a laptop, lab fees and so much more. It will also provide me some relief both mentally and financially as medical school can be very burdensome. Joining this Fraternity has been the greatest and one of the most significant events of my life, and I am very thankful!”

Thomas Dowling (ΦΚ) – PAUL K. ADDAMS UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Thomas is a rising senior studying political science and history at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and joined Alpha Chi Rho in 2015. He has consistently remained on the Dean’s List, was inducted into the exclusive Phi Beta Kappa honor society and is an avid Power Lifter in the gym. Tom is very active in political campaigns as a Deputy Chief of Staff, participated in Model Union, and is an active contributor to the local school newspaper and USA Today. He says, “I am grateful to the Alpha Chi Rho Educational Foundation and their generosity. This scholarship will lighten the financial burden of attending the university and allow me to focus on completing my studies.”

Ryaan Ibtisam (Miami Ohio Colony) – JAMES McFADDEN UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Ryaan joined Alpha Chi Rho in fall 2016 as part of our newest Colony at the Miami Univesrity of Ohio. Ryaan is a rising senior, Class of 2018 and a member of the Miami Club Ice Hockey as well as Company Commander of the Army ROTC program. Ryaan was born in Pakistan and moved to the United States and has a strong work ethic, working several jobs on campus to pay his own way through college. He reached out to Alpha Chi Rho National Headquarters over a year ago with a plan to start something new at Miami, which is now on track to become our 99th Chapter. Once Ryaan found out he received this award, he could not wait to attend Convention. He stated, “This educational grant will help me pay for my books and a chunk of my tuition that would have been hard to pay for otherwise. I want to thank everyone involved in the decision. I hope to one day give back to the Foundation because of how generous they have been to me.”

John Hoogerhyde (ΑΦΖ) – JOHN C. ENK UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

John joined Alpha Chi Rho in 2015 and expects to graduate in 2018 from Seton Hall University. John is a Biology Major, is dual enrolled in the Physician Assistant Master’s Program and currently maintains a 3.84 GPA. He is the Social Chair for his Chapter and is a Resident Assistant for Seton Hall University Housing and Residence Life. His numerous volunteer activities extend beyond the Chapter including his local church events. John says, “My family situation is far from perfect, and the money is scarce in such hard times. The scholarship I received from AXPEF will help my family and I tremendously in paying for my schooling so that I may continue my career at Seton Hall and eventually be able to help others as a practicing Physician Assistant.”

Thomas Montesion (ΘΧΦ) – DONALD F. JONES UNDERGRADUATE AND CHARLES W. COUGHLAN UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIPS

Tom recently joined Alpha Chi Rho in fall 2016 and expects to graduate in 2018 from Montclair State University. He says, “I am beyond honored to not only receive this award, but to be a part of Alpha Chi Rho, which is a truly amazing organization. This scholarship will undoubtedly be used to pay some of my tuition and for books in the fall semester. I am beyond grateful to receive this scholarship and will continue living out our motto, being a man of both word and deed.”

Jesus Santana (HΧΦ) – RICHARD V. OLSEN UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP

Jesus joined Alpha Chi Rho in 2015 and expects to graduate in 2018 from New York Institute of Technology. Brother Santana is currently the Chapter President at NYIT, Vice President of the InterFraternity and Sorority Council and maintains a 3.75 GPA in Computer Science. He states, “With the money awarded I am able to afford many of the text books, materials, and other necessities I need. This will also alleviate some time from my part-time job so that I can focus more on my academics.”

Patrick Karmis (ΖΦ) – R. B. STEWART UNDERGRADUATE MAN OF THE YEAR AWARD

Pat joined Alpha Chi Rho in 2015 and is entering his senior year at Clarkson University. Pat is the current Chapter President at Zeta Phi, plays on the University Rugby Team while also serving as Treasurer, is Vice President of Order of Omega and Education and Service Chairman of the Interfraternity Council. His volunteer activities include organizing a school-wide Blood Drive for the American Red Cross, volunteering with the Potsdam Humane Society and working with local middle and high school students through his engineering societies. He is a dual major in Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mathematics and Statistics and holds a 3.91 GPA. He also formerly served as Scholarship Chair and Secretary of Zeta Phi. When speaking with Pat, you can tell he is a busy man, and has worked hard to help his Chapter succeed on a campus where the history of Greek life runs deep but potential new members are a challenge. For all of his dedication and commitment to the Fraternity while balancing his other activities and academic, the RB Stewart Undergraduate Man of the Year is a well-deserved honor.
